Marienplatz, Munich, on New Year's Eve. An absolutely unbridled, chaotic scene, even before midnight, sometimes resembling what I'd imagine to be a Purge.
In many respects, this was closer to a warzone than I imagined beforehand and, indeed, I was even burned on the neck either by intentionally placed fireworks or fallout.
It's recommended to not bring children to this area and safety glasses are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
